About Marcel

Marcel Castillo is a Los Angeles-based Canadian composer whose music blends instinctive musicality with a deep sensitivity to story. Raised by the jazz standards his father sang and the Latin music rooted in his Guatemalan heritage, Marcel developed an early understanding of music as both emotional expression and narrative language. He studied jazz guitar at Concordia University before earning a master’s degree in film scoring from Berklee College of Music, where he refined his improvisation-driven instincts into a craft designed to serve visual storytelling. His background as a performer, producer, and improviser continues to shape his compositional voice, allowing him to approach each project with musical flexibility and emotional clarity.

Marcel has scored a variety of projects ranging from feature film to animated shorts, and has contributed music to television series including Heartland, Son of a Critch, and Saint Pierre, as well as the upcoming video game Soulframe from Digital Extremes. Influenced by artists ranging from Stevie Wonder and Bill Evans to Outkast and Bob Dylan, Marcel writes music that is expressive, immersive, and deeply connected to the emotional world of a story.
